In light of the recent kidnappings in secondary schools in Lagos, most recently the six boys kidnapped from Igbonla Model College who were rescued on Friday, the Governor of Lagos state, Governor Ambode speaking through his deputy, assured Lagosians that the state Government would use the academic break to reinforce security in all schools in the state especially those in the suburbs and riverine areas, to ensure that all forms of crime and criminality are eradicated from the schools.

“The issue of security is a social contract that we have signed with the people of Lagos and we would ensure that we do not disappoint. As far as our schools are concerned, we are going back to the drawing board to ensure that all that need to be done in terms of securing our schools before the next academic session is done,” Chief Press Secretary Habib Aruna quoted the governor as saying.

While presenting the rescued students to the media, Governor Ambode said that they would be well attended to by medical personnel, to ensure they overcome the effects of the trauma they experienced. He also lauded the collaborative input of the security agencies of Lagos and Ondo states as well as Acting President Yemi Osibanjo in ensuring the safe return of the abducted.

We hope this will mark an end to this menace in Nigerian schools.
